Church Services on Sunday January 12th, 2014

Welcome to the website of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Sunday Evening Fellowship, Vientiane, Laos: an international group of believers and seekers from many different backgrounds, sharing together the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

"“We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen—by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”
(Acts 10:39-43)

Church of the Holy Spirit:

The Church of the Holy Spirit morning service will be at the ARDA Language Centre at 10 a.m. (Click here for directions how to get there.)

This Sunday morning, we will again be having a Service of Holy Communion.
Our Holy Communion services customarily follow a liturgy drawn from the Anglican Church. Since we are an international congregation from a range of backgrounds and traditions, the liturgy we use has been chosen to be as inclusive as possible. You certainly do not require to be Anglican or a member of a particular denomination to share with us at the Communion table. The table around which we share the bread and wine belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ and all who love him and seek to love him more are invited to participate with us.
Since we celebrate Holy Communion towards the end of our worship service, if you do not feel that you wish to participate in the sacrament, you are welcome to join with us and remain seated while others gather round the table. This is entirely normal and acceptable. In other words, do not let the fact that we are celebrating Communion, stop you from joining us at church. We warmly welcome you to be with us, wherever you might consider yourself to be on your life's journey.

This is the first Sunday after the Epiphany

The Bible readings for this Sunday are:

Psalm - Psalm 29 / Listen.

Old Testament - Isaiah 42: 1-9 / Listen.

New Testament - Acts 10: 34-43 / Listen.

Children

Children are normally present with us during the first part of our service before leaving for their own teaching in Sunday School. They are of course free to remain throughout the service. If children do decide to go to Sunday School they may rejoin us for Communion when this is being celebrated.

Creche facilities: There are currently several families with young children who are part of the congregation. We welcome people of all ages in church but if needed, we have a creche where we are happy to help with looking after young children and babies.

Click here for information regarding our Child Protection Policy.

The Sunday Evening Fellowship:

The Sunday Evening Fellowship meets at 5 pm, also at the ARDA Language Centre.

The format for the evenings is usually to have a time of praise and prayer, followed by Bible teaching. Once a month, we celebrate Communion.
Sunday School and creche facilities are available.
More details about the (S.E.F.) will be available on the website soon or click on this email address to contact us.

(*Currently the Lao Government does not permit Lao nationals to worship outwith the three recognized Lao churches. If you are a Lao national reading this and interested in finding out more about what Christians believe, you can find out more at one of the following officially recognised churches for Lao nationals: The Lao Evangelical Church, The Roman Catholic Church and the Seventh Day Adventist Church. You will find contact information for these churches in Vientiane here. Should this legislation prohibiting Lao nationals from attending other groups be lifted, we will certainly gladly participate in such changes.)
