We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters,
and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more,
and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.
Therefore, among God’s churches
we boast about your perseverance and faith
in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.

2 Thessalonians 1:3-4

The collect for this Sunday is:

Almighty God,
your servant Abraham obeyed your call,
rejoicing in your promise that in him
all the families of the earth should be blessed.
Give us faith like his,
that in us your promises may be fulfilled;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

How lovely is your dwelling place,

    Lord Almighty!
My soul yearns, even faints,
    for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
    for the living God.
Even the sparrow has found a home,
    and the swallow a nest for herself,
    where she may have her young—
a place near your altar,
    Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in your house;
    they are ever praising you.

    Psalm 84:1-4

The lectionary readings for this twentieth Sunday after Pentecost are:

Psalm- Psalm 84:1-7

First Reading- Jeremiah 14:7-10, 19-22

Second Reading- 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 16-18

Gospel Reading- Luke 18:9-14

The collect for this Sunday is:

O God our redeemer,
you heard the cry of your people,
and sent your servant Moses to lead them out of slavery.
 Free us from the tyranny of sin and death,
and by the leading of your Spirit bring us to our promised land;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever
