Church Services on Sunday 2nd January, 2011

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the website of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Sunday Evening Fellowship, Vientiane, Laos: an international group of believers and seekers from many different backgrounds, sharing together the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

"May the kings of Tarshish and of distant shores
bring tribute to him.
May the kings of Sheba and Seba
present him gifts.
11 May all kings bow down to him
and all nations serve him.

12 For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help.
13 He will take pity on the weak and the needy
and save the needy from death.
14 He will rescue them from oppression and violence,
for precious is their blood in his sight. "

(Psalm 72: 10-14)

 The Church of the Holy Spirit morning service will be at the ARDA Language Centre at 10 a.m.(Click here for directions how to get there.)

This Sunday morning, we will again be having a Service of Holy Communion.
Our Holy Communion services customarily follow a liturgy drawn from the Anglican Church. Since we are an international congregation from a range of backgrounds and traditions, the liturgy we use has been chosen to be as inclusive as possible. You certainly do not require to be Anglican or a member of a particular denomination to share with us at the Communion table. The table around which we share the bread and wine belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ and all who love him and seek to love him more are invited to participate with us.
Since we celebrate Holy Communion towards the end of our worship service, if you do not feel that you wish to participate in the sacrament, you are welcome to join with us and remain seated while others gather round the table. This is entirely normal and acceptable. In other words, do not let the fact that we are celebrating Communion, stop you from joining us at church. We warmly welcome you to be with us, wherever you might consider yourself to be on your life's journey.

This Sunday is the second Sunday after Christmas.
The Bible readings for this Sunday are:

Psalm - Psalm 72: 1-14 / Listen.

Old Testament - Isaiah 60: 1-9 / Listen.

New Testament - Ephesians 3: 1-12 / Listen.

Gospel - Matthew 2: 1-12 / Listen.

Children are normally present with us during the first part of our service before leaving for their own teaching in Sunday School. They are of course free to remain throughout the service. If children do decide to go to Sunday School they may rejoin us for Communion when this is being celebrated.

Creche facilities: There are currently families with young children who are part of the congregation. There is no formal creche as yet but we are happy to help with looking after young children.

The Sunday Evening Fellowship:
The Sunday Evening Fellowship meets at 5 pm, also at the ARDA Language Centre.

The format for the evenings is usually to have a time of praise and prayer, followed by Bible teaching. Once a month, we celebrate Communion.

Church Services On Sunday 26th December, 2010

Happy Christmas!

Welcome to the website of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Sunday Evening Fellowship, Vientiane, Laos: an international group of believers and seekers from many different backgrounds, sharing together the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

" 7 I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD,
the deeds for which he is to be praised,
according to all the LORD has done for us—
yes, the many good things
he has done for Israel,
according to his compassion and many kindnesses.
8 He said, “Surely they are my people,
children who will be true to me”;
and so he became their Saviour.
9 In all their distress he too was distressed,
and the angel of his presence saved them.
In his love and mercy he redeemed them;
he lifted them up and carried them
all the days of old."

(Isaiah 63: 7-9)

Combined Carol Service of Church of The Holy Spirit and the Sunday Evening Fellowship, 12th December 2010 at 5 pm

Welcome to the website of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Sunday Evening Fellowship, Vientiane, Laos: an international group of believers and seekers from many different backgrounds, sharing together the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

"The desert and the parched land will be glad;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
The glory of Lebanon will be given to it,
the splendor of Carmel and Sharon;
they will see the glory of the LORD,
the splendour of our God." Isaiah 35: 1,2

The service will be held at 5 pm in the ARDA Language Centre. (Click here for directions how to get there.)
Please note that there will not be a morning service at 10 am.

This Sunday, the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Sunday Evening Fellowship will be having a Combined Carol Service. This service takes the place of C.H.S.'s regular morning service as both groups combine at the S.E.F.'s usual time of 5 pm worship. We hope that as many people as possible will come along, so please, even if you are very much a "morning person" join with us so that it will truly be a combined service and not just the evening group happening an hour early. A choir will be leading the singing and there will also be drama, as well as input from the children and younger people, so it promises to be a really special event.

This Sunday is the third Sunday in Advent.
The Lectionary Bible readings for Sunday are as follows:

Church Services On Sunday 5th December, 2010

Welcome to the website of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Sunday Evening Fellowship, Vientiane, Laos: an international group of believers and seekers from many different backgrounds, sharing together the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. "
