New Year's Day Church Services, January 1st, 2012

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the website of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Sunday Evening Fellowship, Vientiane, Laos: an international group of believers and seekers from many different backgrounds, sharing together the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

" Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”" (Revelation 21:1-4)

The Church of the Holy Spirit morning service will be at the ARDA Language Centre at 10 a.m.(Click here for directions how to get there.)

This Sunday morning, we will again be having a Service of Holy Communion.
Our Holy Communion services customarily follow a liturgy drawn from the Anglican Church. Since we are an international congregation from a range of backgrounds and traditions, the liturgy we use has been chosen to be as inclusive as possible. You certainly do not require to be Anglican or a member of a particular denomination to share with us at the Communion table. The table around which we share the bread and wine belongs to the Lord Jesus Christ and all who love him and seek to love him more are invited to participate with us.
Since we celebrate Holy Communion towards the end of our worship service, if you do not feel that you wish to participate in the sacrament, you are welcome to join with us and remain seated while others gather round the table. This is entirely normal and acceptable. In other words, do not let the fact that we are celebrating Communion, stop you from joining us at church. We warmly welcome you to be with us, wherever you might consider yourself to be on your life's journey.

This Sunday is the first Sunday after Christmas.
The Lectionary Bible readings this New Year's Sunday are:

Psalm - Psalm 8 / Listen.

Old Testament - Ecclesiastes 3: 1-13 / Listen.

New Testament - Revelation 21: 1-6 / Listen.

Gospel - Matthew 25: 31-46 / Listen.

Children are normally present with us during the first part of our service before leaving for their own teaching in Sunday School. They are of course free to remain throughout the service. If children do decide to go to Sunday School they may rejoin us for Communion when this is being celebrated.

Creche facilities: There are currently families with young children who are part of the congregation. There is no formal creche as yet but we are happy to help with looking after young children.

Combined Carol Service of Church of The Holy Spirit and the Sunday Evening Fellowship, 18th December 2011 at 3 pm at the Vientiane International School

Welcome to the website of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Sunday Evening Fellowship, Vientiane, Laos: an international group of believers and seekers from many different backgrounds, sharing together the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

"“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. For no word from God will ever fail.”

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered.
“May your word to me be fulfilled.”
Then the angel left her."
Luke 1: 34-38

The service will be held at 3 pm at the Vientiane International School
(Click here for directions how to get there.)

Please note that there will be NO morning service at 10 am or Sunday Evening Fellowship at 5 pm.

This Sunday, the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Sunday Evening Fellowship will be having a Combined Carol Service. This service takes the place of C.H.S.'s regular morning service and Sunday Evening Fellowship as both groups combine at 3 pm. We hope that as many people as possible will come along, so please, even if you are very much a "morning person" join with us so that it will truly be a combined service and not just the evening group happening a couple of hours early. A choir will be singing and there will also be drama, as well as input from the children and younger people, so it promises to be a really special event.

This Sunday is the fourth Sunday in Advent.

Church Services On Sunday 11th December, 2011

Welcome to the website of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Sunday Evening Fellowship, Vientiane, Laos: an international group of believers and seekers from many different backgrounds, sharing together the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

"“For I, the LORD, love justice;
I hate robbery and wrongdoing.
In my faithfulness I will reward my people
and make an everlasting covenant with them.
Their descendants will be known among the nations
and their offspring among the peoples.
All who see them will acknowledge
that they are a people the LORD has blessed.”

I delight greatly in the LORD;
my soul rejoices in my God.
For he has clothed me with garments of salvation
and arrayed me in a robe of his righteousness,
as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the soil makes the sprout come up
and a garden causes seeds to grow,
so the Sovereign LORD will make righteousness
and praise spring up before all nations." (Isaiah 61:8-11)

Church Services on Sunday 4th December, 2011

Welcome to the website of the Church of the Holy Spirit and Sunday Evening Fellowship, Vientiane, Laos: an international group of believers and seekers from many different backgrounds, sharing together the Good News of the Lord Jesus Christ.

"A voice says, "Cry out."
And I said, "What shall I cry?"
"All people are like grass,
and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the LORD blows on them.
Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever."" (Isaiah 40:6-8)
