"Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory".  1 Thessalonians 2:9-12

The lectionary readings for this twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost are:

Psalm: Psalm 43
First reading:  Micah 3:5-12
Second reading: 1 Thessalonians 2:9-13
Gospel:  Matthew 23:1-12

The Collect:

Almighty God,
your servant Abraham obeyed your call,
rejoicing in your promise
that in him all the families of the earth
should be blessed.
Give us faith like his,
that in us your promises may be fulfilled;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees,

the Pharisees got together.

One of them, an expert in the law,

tested him with this question:

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart

 and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

This is the first and greatest commandment.

And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

The lectionary readings for this twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost are:

Psalm: Psalm 1
First reading:  Leviticus 19:1-2; 15-18
Second reading: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-8
Gospel:  Matthew 22:34-46

The Collect:

O God our redeemer,

you heard the cry of your people,

and sent your servant Moses

to lead them out of slavery.

Free us from the tyranny of sin and death,

and by the leading of your Spirit

bring us to our promised land;

through Jesus Christ our Lord,

who lives and reigns

with you and the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever.

Sing to the Lord a new song;
    sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord, praise his name;
    proclaim his salvation day after day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
    his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
    he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are idols,
    but the Lord made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
    strength and glory are in his sanctuary.

Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    bring an offering and come into his courts.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness;

tremble before him, all the earth.

Psalm 96:1-9

The lectionary readings for this twentieth Sunday after Pentecost are:

Psalm: Psalm 96:1-9
First reading:  Isaiah 45:1-7
Second reading: 1 Thessalonians 1
Gospel:  Matthew 22:15-22

The Collect:

Almighty and ever-living God,
increase in us your gift of faith,
that forsaking what lies behind
and reaching out to what is before,
we may run the way of your commandments
and win the crown of everlasting joy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
