Dear friends, let us love one another,
for love comes from God.
Everyone who loves has been born of God
and knows God.
Whoever does not love does not know God,
because God is love.
This is how God showed his love among us:
He sent his one and only Son into the world
that we might live through him.
This is love: not that we loved God,
but that he loved us and sent his Son
as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Dear friends, since God so loved us,
we also ought to love one another.
No one has ever seen God;
but if we love one another,
God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
1 John 4:7-12

The readings for this fifth Sunday of Easter:

Psalm: Psalm 22:25-31
First Reading: Acts 8:26-40
Second Reading: 1 John 4:7-21
Gospel: John 15:1-8

Collect:

Almighty God,
your Son Jesus Christ
is the way, the truth, and the life.
Give us grace to love one another
and walk in the way of his commandments,
who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

"Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things."
